Twist.... and Shout

Image
Kroger went all out on this one.  Until they didn't. Or until I ruined it for them.... This challenge sounded like the most fun out of all the ones so far:  fresh produce, for free a free spiralizer a free apron  (with the Private Selection logo on it!)  F resh out of the box - a new apron and a veggie spiralizer!  Looks good! I was so excited I couldn't wait to try this one out!   We were already planning a sheet pan dinner - which is his new favorite.  I'm not sure who he is and what he did with my husband.... because he ASKS for VEGGIES now!  But I'll sure take it! (Carrots, Brussel Sprouts, *Honeycrisp* Apples, and meat of your choice - but we recommend smoked sausage) What I don't recommend:  USING ANY TOUGH VEGGIE ON THIS LITTLE SPIRALIZER. IT BROKE. The plastic "blade" on it was too flat.  I had to apply a lot of pressure to try and push more of the veggie down onto the blade whi...

On the Road Again...

Sometimes I think I want to make excuses just to take my #KiaNiro out for a drive.  She gets 50 MPG, which means around 500 miles on ONE tank of gas in the summer, so we hardly notice the gas price! We got the 2017 Kia Niro EX in Deep Cerulean. She is beautiful. She sparkles, she flies, she hovers, and she can be silent as a mouse. This is my first Hybrid car. We weren't sure what to expect, and not sure how much of a learning curve we would need.  Turns out, you just need to take an extra second or two longer to stop at a stop sign... which basically just requires you to stop - like you're SUPPOSED TO. The hybrid engine will shut off, and run off the battery while idle, which helps save all that gas for later! So. Road trip anyone? Since we both already had Memorial Day off, we used a vacation day the Friday before and took a quick trip down to my favorite place on the planet - the beach.  My goal was to visit Seaside, Florida, and tr...

Bringin' Home the Bacon

Image
B A C O N BACON BACON! We love breakfast food.  We just don't love mornings. So, compromise:  Breakfast For Dinner! I think it took three trips before I could find this bacon, though.  I had to use my #Kroger app to find the location.  I was starting to think it didn't exist, which was going to be crazy and make me very sad because I was really looking forward to this #free sample.  So, to keep you from all your searching.... it was with the packaged lunch meats.  Which in my store is just to the right of the bacon section.  I'm pretty sure I only finally found it because my husband really did want the lunch meat, and surprise! There's fresh bacon there, too.  I say fresh, because it's Uncured Natural Choice, but don't mistake that for what's out of the meat counter.  This is still prepackaged.   And pretty. Depending on who you are, this is either a funny or a sad story: So my rout...

"Is it Green?" But it's made from Peas...

Image
We all drink milk from the day we're born.  Mom, bottle, cow.... PEAS???!!!! Wait, what? Pea Milk? What is that?  So we signed up to try it for free. Then we decided to try it with friends! Some of our friends try to eat healthy, and inspire us to eventually follow along.  One of our friends is lactose intolerant, so we thought this would be a great way to introduce an alternative! Here are the results: "Is it green?!"  "This tastes like we milked a cardboard cow"  "It's like coconut milk"  "Not bad. But don't drink it by itself"  "The consistency is better than almond, coconut, and rice milk!"  "For the bad taste, this should have more protein."  "Maybe a smoothie would sweeten the taste" So, as you can see, some of us liked it, some tolerated it, others gave a very funny face of clear dislike.  I wish I had my camera ready for that one!!   We want to thank K...

Kroger spoils me -AND- my Kitties!

Image
If you know me, you very quickly learn I'm a cat person.   We currently have four cats.  It just kinda happened. And I'm OK with that! Here is my Kitty crew: Youngest to Oldest, Left to Right: Duncan "Kitten", Little Bit "Momma", Rory, and Strax "Kitty" In 2014 when my grandmother died, I went to the humane society for some kitty time. Through that visit, I searched on their website for a cat that would be my buddy, my emotional therapy cat (unofficially).   A Tuxedo cat was listed, who would greet you at the door and loved to be petted.  I went and visited him, and a few days later, Strax came to live with us. My husband named him Strax, after a current Doctor Who character.  He will destroy you for the glory of the Sontaran Empire. Or maybe just a string. He's a giant. He's 15 pounds, and his tail is an entire foot long.  He will cuddle as long as it's his idea, and only until the camera comes out, and then...
